Draught is ravaging the Vrancea County, where it severely affects grain crops, with rape, wheat and two-row barley being worst hit, realitatea.net reports. Farmers are exasperated and say this is the first time when they are confronted by such draught. Their only hope is that rain will come soon and save at least part of their crops. The head of the Vrancea Agricultural Department, Costica Neata warns that draught will reach a peak this year. “According to data we centralised so far, the deficit of water in the soil reaches approximately 100 liters per square meter, compared to the multi-annual average figure,” Neata said. People are bracing for the draught and invested immense sums in irrigation systems.
