Romania’s water polo team was defeated by Spain on Tuesday evening in a Group B game at the European Championship in Eindhoven, score 12-10 (4-4, 3-3, 3-2, 2-1), Agerpres informs. On Monday, Romania was defeated by European title holder Croatia, score 10-7.
The game was very balanced, the two teams finishing the first half in a tie, score 7-7. In the first two quarters Spain held the lead only once, score 5-4, but took the lead in the third quarter, score 9-7. Romania wasted the chance of equalizing at the start of the last quarter, missing a 5-meter throw.
“It was a very tight game and that’s why I’m very disappointed with the result,” head coach Istvan Kovacs stated, being quoted by frpolo.ro website.
Team captain Cosmin Radu stated immediately after the game: “I believe both teams are equal in value. Spain was a bit better and unfortunately we missed two penalties.”
Romania will next play against Montenegro on Thursday, at 9.30 PM.
