“Maria de Buenos Aires” at Operetta Theatre

Bucharest’s “Ion Dacian” National Operetta Theatre (TNO) hosts on Sunday, from 7pm, a presentation of “Maria de Buenos Aires”, a tango opera by Astor Piazzolla, directed by Mario Radacovsky. The surrealist tale revolves around a light woman from the Argentinean capital, named Maria, who, after her death, appears on stage as Maria’s Shadow, re-enacting her life’s journey, which includes an encounter with a poet, a group of “puppets” whose strings he pulls and a psychoanalysts’ circus. Through the fight her Shadow wages to prevent her daughter, an alter-ego of herself, from repeating her personal history, Maria is fighting in fact her own destiny and defeating fate. Tickets, priced RON 10 to 30, are available at TNO’s box-office, tel. no. 021/313.63.48, or on www.eventim.ro.
