Decision in ‘Quality Trophy’ case, adjourned

The High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) adjourned on Monday their ruling in the “Quality Trophy” case in which ex-prime minister Adrian Nastase stands charged with acts of corruption, in relation to fund-raising actions for his 2004 election campaign when he ran for president as the Social-Democrat Party (PSD)’s representative. The High Court stated that the decision would be announced next Monday. Ex-premier Adrian Nastase argued, at the time of the last hearing in early January, that he was innocent and the trial was a political one. Nastase was deferred to justice in this case in January 2009, charged with influence-peddling or using his authority as a party leader with the view of obtaining material gains for him or others.
