UDMR calls for fiscal amnesty on civil servants’ bonuses

The Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) leader Kelemen Hunor called during Monday’s coalition meeting for a fiscal amnesty in the case of civil servants in local administrations who were paid a variety of bonuses, under the terms of their employment contracts, and were subsequently compelled by the Court of Auditors to pay back the money, Mediafax reports. “It is entirely counterproductive to ask them, in 2012, to pay back these rights granted in 2009 and 2010”, Kelemen Hunor stated. The Union leader argued that a solution had to be found as “the people are not guilty” and they were entitled to receive those bonuses, which were included in the collective bargaining agreement and approved by the Territorial Labour Inspectorate.
