Romania and Bulgaria should be allowed to join the Schengen area, Danish Justice Minister Morten Boedskov said, according to Novinite.
“There are no obstacles to Romania and Bulgaria joining the Schengen system,” Boedskov told a news conference at a meeting of EU justice and police ministers in Copenhagen.
Thus, Boedskov reiterated the Danish EU presidency’s support for the two countries to join the bloc’s border-free zone.
It was recently reported that the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism progress report for Bulgaria and Romania due early next month is expected to be negative, which would likely stall a long overdue Schengen membership for both countries, the Bulgarian agency underlined.
The Netherlands remains the only member state decisively opposing Romania’s and Bulgaria’s Schengen accession and is expected to maintain its stance if the report turns out negative.
