Postage stamp issue: 2012 – the Caragiale year

As Romanians commemorated yesterday 160 years since the birth and 100 years since the death of famous Romanian playwright I.L. Caragiale, 2012 was decreed the Caragiale Year in Romania. On this occasion, Romfilatelia put in circulation a postage stamps issue dedicated to the event, named ‘2012- The Caragiale Year,’ available in all Romfilatelia shops. Born in a family of actors, I.L. Caragiale was an excellent author of pamphlets, short stories and theatrical plays, as well as a successful journalist. He depicted a broad range of characters, from politicians and magistrates to members of the small bourgeoisie, journalists, civil servants and profiteers. His plays, staged by theatrical companies all over the country, will be presented in Bucharest next autumn, during the National Theater Festival.
