RATB wants to raise transport fare at RON 2 per trip

Constantin Tobescu, spokesman for the Bucharest Public Transport Authority (RATB) told Ziarul Financiar that the it proposed the Bucharest Municipality, at the end of last year, to raise the fare from RON 1.3 to RON 2 per trip. “The fare hike proposal is justified by the higher operation expenses of public transport vehicles, given that the price of diesel and electricity has increased since 2008, and the VAT quota went up from 19 pc to 24 pc,” Tobescu said. According to the RATB official, the price of 1.3 RON/trip is in effect since February 2008. Few days ago, Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu said that he opposes the fare hike, which should be preceded by an analysis of expenses and of the sums provided by the Municipality as subsidies to RATB.
