Octavian Morariu, President of the Romanian Olympic Committee (COSR), announced on Tuesday that the state has earmarked only 30 per cent of the sum that the body had asked for in order to prepare for Romania’s participation at the Olympic Games in London. “It doesn’t seem right for federations that are in the race to qualify, such as the handball and water polo federations, to be improperly financed during an Olympic year. (…) Our request for COSR’s budget was RON 90 M. (…) the approved budget is RON 30.9 M, meaning 30 per cent of that. I want to raise the alarm. We are fighting for the youngsters that represent our country, not for us” Octavian Morariu stated, being quoted by hotnews.ro. The Summer Olympic Games will take place on July 27 – August 12.
