MPs spent over RON 330,000 on trips abroad in November 2011

The Senate and the Lower Chamber have spent over RON 330,000 on the MPs’ trips abroad in a single month (November 2011 – editor’s note), Mediafax informs quoting the Lower Chamber. Thus, the 33 trips abroad registered in that month cost the Lower Chamber RON 295,934 (over EUR 70,000). The most expensive of them (over RON 65,000) was a five-day trip to Vietnam (November 7-12) in which a delegation of 4 MPs led by the Lower Chamber’s Secretary General Gheorghe Barbu (PDL) took part. Another high-cost trip (RON 33,418) was a seven-day trip to Djibouti, a trip in which one UDMR MP took part. PDL MP Cezar Preda, President of Romania’s Permanent Delegation to PACE, took part in a five-day trip to Florence and Monaco, at a cost of RON 9,500. In November, the Senate spent RON 34,136 on nine trips abroad. Senator Titus Corlatean, Chairman of the Senate’s External Affairs Commission, spent over RON 5,000 on an official visit to Serbia and on his participation at the Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum in Istanbul. Senators Ioan Bara, Georgica Severin and Ioan Chelaru spent nearly RON 15,000 in order to take part in the 26th session of the Regional Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie in Vilnius, Lithuania.
