Prosecutor Max Balasescu, detained for taking bribe from witches

Prosecutor Max Balasescu from the Ilfov Court’s Prosecutor’s Office was detained yesterday on charges of having requested a EUR 300,000-bribe from the witches Vanessa and Melisa to help them dodge charges against them, according to a release by the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA), quoted by Mediafax. The witches Roxana Lider, a.k.a. Vanessa, and Rada Minca, a.k.a. Melisa, were arrested last December after Oana Zavoranu filed a complaint at the police, accusing the two of fraud. Balasescu was caught in the act on Tuesday as he was receiving via a middleman a bribe of RON 90,000 and, respectively, EUR 80,000. Furthermore, it appears Balasescu is also under investigation for alleged influence-peddling in favour of a car-theft gang. Mihai Betelie, chief-prosecutor of the Bucharest District 4 Court’s Prosecutor’s Office, arrested last week on charges of corruption, is also a defendant in this case.
