Leading businesspeople in UNPR leadership, report says

The ruling coalition’s National Union for Romania Progress (UNPR) leadership includes several businesspeople, but also former ministers in previous cabinets and even former intelligence agency members, according to business daily ‘Ziarul Financiar.’ Thus, businessman Tiberiu Urdareanu, majority shareholder of UTI group, leads the party’s economy, transport and finance department, while Angela Toncescu, former president of the Insurance Overseeing Committee, heads the investment and economic consultancy department. Nicolae Dumitru, who controls the group of companies Niro, is leader of the UNPR’s department for relations with businesspeople, the newspaper wrote. The party is led by former Labour Minister Marian Sarbu and by current Defence Minister Gabriel Oprea, both of them former members of the Social Democrat Party.
