Funeriu: 7-8 pc of teachers pay union dues

23,000 teachers, namely approximately 7-8 per cent of the total number of teachers, are currently paying union dues, which means that the unions collect approximately RON 70 M each year, former Education Minister Daniel Funeriu stated on Wednesday. Funeriu made the statement after the Bucharest Court of Appeals ruled that the request filed by three federations from the secondary education system – FSLI, FEN and Spiru Haret – was unfounded. The three unions wanted to prevent the application of minister order 4576/2011. According to that order, teachers will receive their salaries in full, without their union dues being automatically subtracted from them. Funeriu pointed out that from now teachers will choose to pay their union dues to those that truly represent them, not to those that skip classes under the excuse of being union leaders but that protect only their personal interests instead. FSLI has announced that it will attack the Bucharest Court of Appeals ruling.
