Maldives’ deposed president faces arrest

The deposed president of the Maldives was facing arrest Thursday, a former foreign minister said, as political turmoil gripped the capital following days of violent clashes in the Indian Ocean nation, CNN reported. Former President Mohamed Nasheed is holed up in his home with no protection from the police or the military, the minister said, adding that a large crowd was gathered outside his house in anticipation of an arrest. His wife fled to Sri Lanka a day earlier.
