Daniel Funeriu appointed presidential adviser

The president Traian Basescu signed, on Friday, the decree appointing ex-Education Minister Daniel Funeriu to the office of presidential aide. Funeriu acted as minister of Education, Research, Youth and Sports in the Cabinet headed by Emil Boc, since December 2009. Before holding the ministerial office, 41-year-old Funeriu, a member of the Democrat-Liberal Party (PDL), acted as the deputy chair of the Presidential Committee for educational and research policies and as an MEP. He is trained as a chemistry researcher. He left Romania in 1988 to pursue his studies in France and went on to work as a researcher in the United States. In 2002 he was recruited by the Japanese and was employed as a researcher in an institute in Osaka.
