Professor Ionel Sinescu, the director of the Fundeni Urological Surgery and Kidney Transplant Centre and deputy rector of the Bucharest “Carol Davila” Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF) for the past eight years, has been appointed rector of the same institution. Sinescu’s opposing candidate was Professor Ioan Lascar, who only managed to get 456 votes to Sinescu’s 605. Five candidates had initially entered the race for the UMF rector’s office, namely, the academics Adrian Streinu Cercel, Ioan Fulga, Irinel Pop, Ioan Lascar. After being elected at the helm of UMF’s Senate, Professor Adrian Streinu Cercel withdrew his candidacy. Professors Ioan Fulga and Irinel Popescu subsequently pulled out of the race as well.
