Audio-visual body sanctions Antena 1, OTV for outrageous footage

The National Audio-visual Council (CNA) has decided yesterday to suspend Antena 1’s broadcast for 10 minutes, from 7 PM to 7.10 PM, after one of its TV shows aired a video recording showing Emil Boc naked. The Council deemed that the action violated the former Prime Minister’s private life. According to the audio-visual legislation, during those 10 minutes the TV channel will air a text that will explain CNA’s decision and what audio-visual laws were broken. CNA is yet to establish the day when this sanction will be applied, however that will most likely happen today, Mediafax informs. “An even higher interruption, a three-hour one, will follow if they continue. (…) The sanction comes following repeated offences in other shows and concerning other persons too. The fact that this is about the former Prime Minister doesn’t change things,” CNA President Rasvan Popescu stated on Realitatea TV. In reply, Dan Capatos, the host of the show that aired the said images, argued that the images were of public interest. “If the Prime Minister ends up in such an embarrassing situation, when he is guarded by people paid from our money, imagine what will happen to us,” Capatos stated. OTV was also fined RON 200,000 for re-airing footige recording broadcast by Antena 1.
