Ponta: American authorities to support opposition if it comes to power

The American authorities will support the Romanian opposition if it comes to power, USL Co-President and PSD President Victor Ponta stated on Thursday evening on Antena 3. Ponta made the statement from the CNN studios in Washington. Ponta paid a visit to the US last week, alongside Titus Corlatean (PSD) and Cornel Dobritoiu. “The answer I received everywhere is that what matters for the US is the people’s democratically-expressed will and that they see Romania as a serious partner in the future, after the next elections. (…) Of course, continuing military projects such as the missile shield is important for America,” Victor Ponta stated, antena3.ro informs. Ponta added that his message was that “Romania has the EU and the US as priorities, as top partners, that we are a country that has enough problems but that respects its commitments and we have a road to the future, which means being alongside Europe and the US.”
