Army in Concert kicks off season with special premiere

“Army in Concert” season kicks off tonight at 7pm, bringing once more the Army Representative Orchestra on the Radio Hall stage. The first performance of this season marks an all-time premiere, bringing together violinist Rene Popescu and the brass band orchestra coordinated by maestro Aurel Gheorghita, in an extraordinary rendition of “Schindler’s List” musical score. The brass band orchestra’s repertoire is a special one, including works of classical inspiration, composed especially for this type of orchestration. At the same time, string instruments were replaced by woodwind instruments and the introduction of the saxophone, basset horn and the tuba contributed to widening the orchestra’s range. The concept of this season is a musical excursus along the lines of classical music, opera, jazz, swing, film scores and pop. Founded over half a century ago, the Army Representative Orchestra is now the most prestigious brass brand orchestra in Romania and a model for similar bands across the country. The public’s entrance is free.
