The Supreme Magistracy Council has decided yesterday to suspend judge Maria David from the Supreme Court’s Civil Section, given the fact that National Anti-corruption Office (DNA) prosecutors have started criminal action against her for intercession. Judge Maria David was placed under 29-day preventive arrest on Wednesday. The decision was challenge by her lawyer which stated that there is no direct evidence against the judge, the video recording showing instead that the magistrate is given a sum of money but she refuses it. The judge is accused of asking EUR 200,000 in exchange for interceding with her former Ploiesti Court of Appeals colleagues in order for them to cancel a conviction. According to judicial sources, the denouncer is Petre Blanda, a businessman from Dambovita. Maria David was judge in Targoviste. She was then promoted to the Ploiesti Court of Appeals and was a Supreme Court magistrate since 2009.
