GfK: Durables market advanced by 12.8 pc in 2011

The market of consumer durables advanced by 12.8 pc last year to EUR 1.43 bln, with an increase of 15.6 pc in Q4, against October-December 2010, according to a GfK survey made public yesterday. “The fourth quarter was positive for several sectors: two of them had increase rates above 20 pc (office equipment and IT) and two others (small electric household appliances and telecom) were near this figure too. The sectors of photo equipment, electronics and large household appliances also had a good quarter, with increases around 10 pc, while the IT sector was the big winner of the year, with an advance of 25.5 pc against 2010. Generally speaking, 2011 was a year of recovery for all sectors,” reads a press release issued by GfK Romania. The last quarter of 2011 meant for the market of large household appliances the biggest growth rate year-on-year, of 9.3 pc, to EUR 99 M. During the whole year, sales of large household appliances reached EUR 328 M. The same GfK data indicate the fact that 2011 began with a strong increase of the electronics market, with a sales advance of 8.6 pc, to EUR 293 M. The sales achieved in the last quarter of 2011 were important and amounted to EUR 110 M, up 10.2 pc vs. the same interval of 2010. In the telecom segment, sales of mobile phones soared by 10 pc, to EUR 191 M.
