Pincess Caradja detained in University Square

Brianna Caradja, Claudiu Craciun and several other persons were detained on Tuesday evening after staging a protest in front of the Economy Ministry. They were taken to a police precinct where they were fined because they took part in an unauthorized protest. “It’s a very serious precedent against freedom. People being detained three times on the same day, in an increasingly brutal manner,” Brianna Caradja stated for Realitatea TV. 16 persons that were protesting against the use of shale gas were detained on Tuesday evening in front of the Economy Ministry. Romanian Gendarmerie spokesperson Georgian Enache stated that the protest was unauthorized. “The gendarmes told those present there what the law stipulates and asked them to obtain an authorization for the protest. They refused and were taken to the precinct where they were ID’ed. 12 of them returned and they were again taken to the precinct. At first they received RON 500 fines,” Enache stated.
