Lawyer, detained for taking EUR 70,000 from drug dealer

Bucharest lawyer Eugen Alexandru Radu was detained by DNA prosecutors, who accuse him of having demanded EUR 100,000 – of which he received EUR 70,000 – from a convicted drug trafficker, in order to convince the judges of the Supreme Court to shorten his prison sentence from 15 to 6 years. The lawyer was caught last week just right after he received the money from the denouncer, via an intermediary, as a first installment of the promised sum. According to judiciary sources quoted by Mediafax, the trafficker which paid the lawyer is tried, together with a Spanish citizen, for bringing to Romania 160 kg of cocaine, worth EUR 10 M, through the Constanta Port.
