Iskandarani and a former chief of Police, suspected of stealing energy

Several searches were conducted yesterday in Bucharest and four counties, targeting entrepreneurs involved in a case of electricity theft. Judiciary sources said for Mediafax that the list of suspects includes the former chief of the Timisoara Border Police, Constantin Daminescu, and the controversial businessman Zaher Iskandarani. According to the spokeswoman of the Timis County Police Inspectorate, Madalina Mezdrea, policemen and ENEL employees on Tuesday raided several hotels, restaurants, guesthouses, production facilities and transport companies in Timisoara, Blaj, Constanta, Arad and Bucharest . According to Mezdrea, the suspects tampered the electricity meters, which only recorded 20-40 pc of the real amount of electricity being used, with the total loss exceeding EUR 100,000.
