Labour accident on the construction site of the Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation. Four workers were caught under the iron frame of a pillar, which collapsed yesterday morning. According to the spokesman of ISU Bucharest, Daniel Vasile, three workers were caught under the metal structure and another had a panic attack. They were extracted and taken to hospital by the SMURD crews that responded to the incident. According to Alis Grasu, manager of the Bucharest-Ilfov Ambulance Service, one of the victims – a man aged 24 – had concussions at the left hip and left elbow, minor wounds at the right arm, and was in a stable condition. “Two workers were able to free themselves from under the collapsed frame and only needed first aid on site, provided by a SMURD team. The other two workers were immediately rescued by their teammates and were taken to hospital for medical care, so they are out of any danger,” said the spokesman of the Romanian Patriarchy, Constantin Stoica. According to the same source, the workers were wearing the mandatory protection equipment when the accident occurred, and the people in charge with labour protection and safety of both the Romanian Patriarchy and the BOGART SRL company (the company that employed the workers) were present on the construction site.
