Classical and contemporary works, on auction in Bucharest

Three paintings by Nicolae Tonitza – ‘Three brothers (The painter’s children)’ and ‘Ox carts at dusk,’ – are proposed to art collectors by Artmark in the Spring Auction that will be held tomorrow at the Marriott Hotel. The painting which represents the painter’s children is evaluated at EUR 100,000 – 200,000 and comes from a private collection of France, and the other is estimated at EUR 60,000 – 120,000. The third masterpiece signed by Tonitza is ‘Nude seen from behind,’ evaluated at EUR 70,000 – 120,000. Other works put on auction are signed by Stefan Luchian, Theodor Pallady, Gheorghe Petrascu, Camil Ressu, Iosif Iser and Ion Tuculescu. The maximum value of all the lots is approximated at EUR 2,000,000. The exhibition that precedes the auction may still be visited today, at the Cesianu-Racovita Palace, from 11.00 AM to 9.00 PM.Another auction, this time dedicated to contemporary art, will be organised tomorrow in Bucharest by Grow Art – the first of this kind ever – with 97 works signed by artists like Gili Mocanu, Marin Gherasim and Horea Pastina.
