New Ford B-Max launched in Romania

The price of the subcompact mini MPV will start off from EUR 13,400 and will go up to EUR 17,650, Ford Romania General Manager Henrik Nenzen stated.

Ford launched in Romania yesterday the new B-Max model made in Craiova.

The car can be ordered by Romanian customers starting today, March 23, and the production will be launched in June, Ford Romania General Manager Henrik Nenzen stated. The price of the subcompact mini MPV starts off from EUR 13,400 (VAT included) for the 90 HP 1.4-liter diesel engine model (Ambiente) and goes up to EUR 17,650 (VAT included) for the 95 HP 1.6-liter diesel engine model (Titanium). The B-Max with a 100 HP 1-liter engine costs EUR 16,150 (VAT included). Based on Ford’s global B-car platform – which it has in common with the new Fiesta – B-Max represents the company’s vision of a compact, premium multi-purpose vehicle that combines ample room and versatility with intelligent and styled exterior. “The design is to be sporty not old classic vehicle. Absolutely, B-Max is a car with unique features,” Ford Chief Engineer Klaus-Peter Tamm added. B-Max is a little over 4 meters long, just 11 centimeters longer than the 5-door Fiesta, very easy to handle, and 32 centimeters shorter than Ford C-Max. Nenzen also pointed out that Ford’s sales target on the Romanian market in 2013 stands at 2,000 units, the rest of the units set to be exported in proportion of 90 per cent. “We will produce 60,000 cars in Craiova this year and 100,000 units in 2013. This year we want to sell 500 units to Romanian clients,” Ford Romania President Jan Gijsen stated. Likewise, 45 per cent of the parts for the new Ford B-Max model will be produced in Romania, that percentage to be gradually raised to over 60 per cent, the President of Ford Romania added. Gijsen added that Ford will launch in April in Craiova the production of the high-performing 1-liter Eco-Boost engine. The pre-production of B-Max started in August 2011 and will end in May 2012, while that of the Eco-Boost engine started in September 2011 and will end in March 2012. At the same time, Gijsen talked about EUR 675 M to be invested in modernizing the plant in Craiova, pointing out that the Romanian plant is the only one that benefits from the latest generation 3-WET paint technology.

Max includes six engine options – 1-liter 100 HP and 120 HP gasoline engines, 1.4-liter 90 HP gasoline engine, 1.6-liter 105 HP gasoline engine, 1.5-liter 75 HP diesel engine and 1.6-liter 95 HP diesel engine. 30,000 engines will be produced in Craiova this year and approximately 200,000 units in 2013. Likewise, Ford promises a consumption of 4 liters for the diesel B-Max produced in Craiova. The 1-liter EcoBoost engine (120 HP) will feature carbon dioxide emissions of 114 grams/kilometer and a mileage of 4.9 liters/100 kilometers. In what concerns technologies that lower the consumption of fuel and the carbon dioxide emissions, B-Max features the Auto-Start-Stop, Ford Eco Mode, Gear Shift Indicator and Smart Regenerative Charging technologies. Special, ultra-strong steel was used to construct the car body’s key elements and doors. Thus, B-Max will become the safest car made in Romania, the officials expecting it to score 5 stars in Euro NCAP tests.
