Ex-Secretary of State Andreica, CJ Bistrita president and other four defendants investigated at large

Ex-Secretary of State Ioan Andreica, the President of Bistrita-Nasaud County Council, Liviu Rusu and other four defendants detained Friday and Saturday in the embezzlement and corruption case will be further investigated at large, after the Bucharest Tribunal rejected, Saturday night, DNA’s request to remand them in custody. The court decision is, however, not final, and can be appealed against at the Bucharest Court of Appeal. Ioan Andreica’s lawyer, Grigore Chiorean, told Mediafax on Sunday that he had studied the case and saw that it contained many ‘fairytales’.According to Romania TV, PDL Secretary General, Ioan Oltean, is also suspected of fixing tenders. His name appears in the corruption case against former Secretary of State Ioan Andreica, and DNA prosecutors have information suggesting that the two of them had fixed tendering procedures in return for millions of euro. For now, Ioan Oltean is not a defendant in the case, but just under preliminary investigation. Ex-Secretary of State at the Transport Ministry and Development Ministry Ioan Andreica is charged with association for the purpose of the commission of the criminal offence of influence peddling, bribe-giving, continuous instigation to the forging of signed written documents and continuous instigation to money laundering. Andreica’s former subordinate at MDRT, Adrian Palade, is under investigation for forging signed written documents and money laundering, both offences being in a continuous form. The President of the Bistrita-Nasaud County Council is investigated by the anti-corruption prosecutors for bribe-taking and use or presentation of falsified, inaccurate or incomplete documents or statements the result of which was the unjust obtaining of funds from the general budget of the European Communities or from the budgets managed by them or on behalf of them. Liviu Rusu is PDL Secretary General in Bistrita-Nasaud and ‘one of the possible candidates’ for a new term as president as Ioan Oltean has repeatedly indicated. Ioan Andreica had been PDL Secretary General in the same county before Liviu Rusu, and now is a regular party member.
