Fiscal body to check the wealthiest Romanians

The National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) will start checking the wealthy people, in view of taxing their wealth. The activity will start when the income statement for last year will be processed, on May 25 at latest, through a department whose staff has been capped at 50, Mediafax reports. The checks will be initiated under a government decision issued in December 2010, which stipulates that the individual taxpayers whose real incomes exceed by at least RON 50,000 the sums they declared will pay a tax of 16 pc applied to the difference between the two values. When the government issued the decision aimed at checking the wealthy, ANAF chief Sorin Blejnar said that 200-300 people are targeted, mostly very rich entrepreneurs that deliberately omitted to register their company incomes, in order to avoid paying taxes.
