Before departing to Seoul last night, President Basescu gave a press statement where he presented the context and objectives of the nuclear security summit taking place in South Korea’s capital city on March 26/27. ‘Romania belongs to the club of the 30 countries that hold the technology for the entire cycle of nuclear fuel production. This summit is extremely important because we can participate with our contributions and state our position in the highest forum of debate on the nuclear energy’, said the president. Among the summit objectives listed by the president there are the evaluation of tangible progress made by states in the area since 2010 and firm commitment for 2014, the regaining of confidence in the nuclear energy, promotion of further measures for increasing nuclear safety, new approaches to combating nuclear terrorism and consolidation of cooperation on the prevention of unlawful transfer of nuclear material. The Fukushima disaster will also be on the summit agenda.
