Vodafone Romania Foundation prepares the third edition of ‘Professional Volunteer’

The Vodafone Foundation announced in a press conference yesterday that it concluded the second edition of the ‘Professional Volunteer’ programme, which allows 18 people aged between 22 and 43, coming from various geographic areas and working environments, to spend six months with nonprofit organisations located in Bucharest and 6 other towns. The next edition of the ‘Professional Volunteer’ programme will start in May 2012. The volunteers participated in a wide range of projects, from first-aid courses in the Iasi County, for mothers with social risk, people with sight handicap or people from rural areas, to launching after-school centers for children that are either institutionalised or live in underprivileged families, to developing projects aimed at testing the viruses of HIV and hepatitis B and C in Constanta and Tulcea. In total, the 18 professional volunteers spent 20,000 hours of volunteering in these projects, for the benefit of 9,500 people put in the care of 18 nonprofit organisations. During the entire programme, the Vodafone Foundation covered the current wages of volunteers and the administrative expenses.
