Writer Sofi Oksanen to launch “Purge” novel in Bucharest

Sofi Oksanen, the most important Finnish writer of the day, has arrived in Romania. Today he will launch “Purge,” her best-known novel, at the Boheme Cafe in Bucharest at 6 PM. The novel was translated and published by the Polirom publishing house. Actress Coca Bloos will read fragments from the novel. At the end of the event the author will give autographs. Her Excellency Mrs. Ulla Vaisto, Finnish Ambassador to Romania, literary critic Simona Sora, publicist and political analyst Ioan Stanomir and Bogdan-Alexandru Stanescu, coordinator of the ‘Polirom Bookcase’ collection, will take part in the event. An international best seller translated in 43 languages so far, the “Purge” brought her over 10 international literary prizes such as The Nordic Council Literature Award (2010), the Prix Femina Etranger (2010), The European Book Prize (2010) and the Prix du Roman FNAX (2010). Sofi Oksanen, nominated ‘Personality of the Year 2009’ in Finland, is known as a writer and successful playwright, as well as one of Finland’s lucid contemporary voices, being actively involved in contemporary political debates.
