Promulgated law makes impeaching the President nearly impossible

President Traian Basescu yesterday promulgated a law which provides that impeaching the chief of state must be approved in a referendum by the majority of the voters registered on electoral lists. According to the presidential administration, Traian Basescu signed on Monday the decree that promulgates the Law which approves the Government Emergency Ordinance no. 103/2009 that modifies and completes Law 3/2000 on how the referendum is organised and held.In its position of decision-making house, the Chamber of Deputies approved on March 27 the re-examination request submitted by President Traian Basescu with regard to OUG 103/2009 on the referendum, and ruled that the president of Romania will be impeached if the majority of the citizens registered on electoral lists voted for it in the referendum. Initially, the text on the referendum provided that the impeachment of the president of Romania is approved if voted so by the majority of people that participated in the referendum at country scale.
