Former Premier Adrian Nastase, now president of the National Council of PSD, launched a web site in which he presents his own take on the criminal files opened against him: www.codulzambaccian.ro. “You will find here the real story of the political harassment against Adrian Nastase, former Prime Minister of Romania. Amazing things, known by few, ignored by some, but completely ignored by most. Things that created a maze of endless legal proceedings, in improvised trials, and false information that was leaked to the public by those who misuse the power the people invested them with,” reads the front page of the site. Under the title ‘J’accuse,’ Adrian Nastase denounces “the intimidation, fraud, blackmail and cheating made by the prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) of Romania.” He presents his own version of the story about the three criminal files opened against him: the Quality Trophy, Zambaccian, and Aunt Tamara. The web site promises to soon unveil spectacular things, under headlines like “Does a US agency promote slander?” or “Basescu, Morar, Macovei, are they really fighting corruption? Or are they more preoccupied hunting their political opponents?”The former premier was sentenced to 3 years in prison – suspended – for blackmail in the Zambaccian file and 2 years in prison, plus the interdiction of some civil rights, in the Quality Trophy file. Both sentences may be challenged in a superior court.
