BNR loans EUR 1.465 bln to four banks

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) has loaned RON 6.411 bln (EUR 1.465 bln) to four banks for a six-day period, through a repo tender at a monetary policy interest rate of 5.25 per cent per year, Mediafax informs. Through this kind of operations BNR is offering liquidity to commercial banks in exchange for state bonds. BNR loaned a larger sum on March 12, back when four banks borrowed RON 6.724 bln (EUR 1.544 bln). The only tender for state bonds scheduled this week will take place on Thursday, when the Finance Ministry wants to borrow RON 500 M by selling five-year state bonds.
