Gov’t keeps employment freeze in public sector

The Government will continue to reduce the number of workers in the public sector in next years by hiring one person for every seven vacancies, but the system will be applied with more flexibility in order to remove blockages caused by the shortage of staff, reads a document approved by the Government on Wednesday and obtained by Mediafax.  The commitment to continue the current employment freeze in the public sector, with a few exceptions, was introduced to the 2012-2015 Convergence Programme at the ‘Medium term objectives’ chapter.   The restructuring of public expenditure will be also based on the reform of the healthcare system, by adopting this year a new framework law to narrow down the scope of the package of public services.
