National Anticorruption Office (DNA) prosecutors informed Miron Mitrea on Thursday that they are restarting their criminal proceedings against him. Mitrea is charged with bribery. “They informed me that they are restarting the case. I informed them in writing what I think they are doing. I told them to pay more attention to the procedure. Now they’ve started once again, ok, fine,” Mitrea said while leaving the DNA headquarters. While arriving at the headquarters, Mitrea had stated that in what concerns the charge that he illegally obtained construction goods for one of his mother’s houses, from deputy head of the State Inspectorate for Constructions Irina Jianu, the construction works were paid correctly but the prosecutors insisted on reading more to it. “The bribery consists of nothing,” Mitrea added, pointing out that the prosecutors are investigating but the judges are the ones that decide. Mitrea is accused of receiving a ROL 9 bln bribe from Jianu in exchange for maintaining her in office at the Inspectorate for Constructions. According to anticorruption prosecutors, the sum represents the value of construction works offered for free.
