Pakistani Qawwali music concert

The Embassy of Pakistan is organizing a traditional Qawwali music concert in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Village Museum in Bucharest on Sunday and Monday (6 and 7 May), the embassy informs. The word Qawwali is derived from the Arabic word Qaol which means ‘axiom’ or ‘dictum’. Qawwali is the devotional music of Sufism, meaning Way of the Heart and draws on many centuries of Islamic poetry in a journey into the passionate and ecstatic world of the Sufi mystics.Ghulam Fariduddin Ayaz al-Hussaini and Brothers is a leading Qawwal group from Pakistan and have performed in a number of countries including the UNESCO Music Festival Paris (2001), Olympic Festival Athens (2003), Morocco Music Festival (2004), Patiala Music Festival India (2005) and Zagreb Music Festival (2005). Aided by their chorus of singers and accompaniments from tabla, dholak and harmonium, the principal singers Farid Ayaz and Abu Mohammed draw their audience into a transcendental world of passion. Their professional performance spans over 30 years.
