Two suicides on the same night

A 15-year-old school student from Craiova killed herself because she failed to qualify for the International Astronomy Olympiad. At last year’s Olympiad in Kazakhstan, she ranked third and nurtured a hope to win this year’s edition. Two hours before the incident, she had returned quite depressed from testing, as she learned she only came 7th. “I left her at home two hours ago. I told her that ranking 7th is not the end of the world,” Mediafax quoted Octavian Georgescu, the girl’s Physics teacher, as saying. In a separate incident at Sandra, Timis County, a young male not yet 18 took his life on account of missing his parents who went to work abroad. He hanged himself right in front of the house. According to Realitatea.net, his parents, who are divorced, went to work abroad, with the teenager left in the care of a distant relative. People familiar with the victim, say this was not the first time he tried to end his life.
