Norman Manea, a most acclaimed Romanian-born prose and essay writer, will be in Romania, May 13 – 20, to attend several events, the Polirom Publishing House announced. The author will give a public reading at Bucharest’s Bastilia Bookshop, May 14, 7 pm, from of one of his most recent books published by Polirom in the series dedicated to him On May 15, noontime, Norman Manea will meet with the students at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Bucharest University. On the same day, 6 pm, the first Romanian monograph of Norman Manea will be launched at the Carturesti Verona Bookshop in Bucharest. On May 17, the writer will be awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa title of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University in Ia?i. Manea is nominated for the National Prize for Literature of the Romanian Writers’ Guild 2012. Born in 1936, Manea is professor of European literature and “writer in residence” at Bard College, New York.
