A real marathon of events dedicated to bicycles started yesterday in Bucharest and will continue this weekend and next week, adevarul.ro reports. The peak of the series will be reached Sunday, May 13, with the 2012 edition of the popular race named ‘The first escape.’ The race, open to all bicycle fans, will cover the distance between Bucharest and Snagov, crossing 55 km of forest and dirt roads. Each year, this was the race with the highest number of participants. More about the event can be learned on the internet site primaevadare.ro. Organisers want to encourage a healthy lifestyle by doing open-air sports in Bucharest, for a cleaner and less crowded city, by using bicycles. In a different event, photographer Andrei Vocurek shows us the town as seen from the saddle of a bicycle, going along three routes. The photos are on display in an exhibition opened Thursday in the Universitatii underground passageway. The chosen routes are the Bonaparte – Kiseleff districts, the Old Center – the Carol I Park, and Cismigiu – the Circus Park.Next week, on May 16, there will be Marches of Silence in Bucharest and other towns, commemorating the cyclists killed in road accidents. So far, over 250 towns announced they will participate in the march. “The main rule of the march is silence. No horns, no comments, no sound, except those absolutely necessary,” explained Marian Vulpe, the initiator of the event. The meeting point will be the Izvor Park entrance facing the Palace of the Parliament.
