Romania – active in preliminary questions, ECJ president says while in Bucharest

President Traian Basescu welcomed yesterday at the Presidential Palace a delegation of 13 European Court of Justice (ECJ) judges, headed by ECJ President Vassilious Skouris. During the meeting the Head of State said that at a time when the EU seems to be more “affected” that initially thought the European Court of Justice based in Luxembourg represents an element of stability for the Union. In his turn, the ECJ President stated that Europeans should remain united, appreciating at the same time Romania’s firm commitment towards the ECJ. Also yesterday, the ECJ delegation had a working meeting at the Palace of Parliament with the Romanian Constitutional Court’s assistant judges and magistrates. Vassilious Skouris stated that Romania is particularly active in what concerns preliminary questions addressed to the ECJ.
