The visit by ArcelorMittal President Lakshmi N. Mittal to Galati-based ArcelorMittal plant was for ‘a regular evaluation of activity’, the company official inspecting the main production equipment and discussing with local management as well as workers, Mediafax quotes a company release on Friday, Mittal appreciated ‘the good dynamics of results’ in the health & safety and quality areas, as well as the progress made by furnace 5 after its full refurbishment, reads the release. Mittal also said he was confident that the Romanian team would overcome the current difficulties generated by the market circumstances, said ArcelorMittal Galati Solidaritatea union leader Gheorghe Tiber. The offer put in by ArcelorMittal Galati, one of the biggest energy consumers in Romania, to purchase electricity on the OPCOM exchange (electricity market operator) was withdrawn in March because the plant had not received any sale proposal. The company was planning to buy 3.15 M MWh (approx. 5 percent of the total national consumption of power) during two years.
