BNR lends EUR 1.8 bln to banks, the biggest sum in the last two years

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) yesterday extended 7-day loans worth RON 8.077 bln in total (EUR 1.8 bln), through a repo auction, thus offering the biggest sum extended through such an auction after February 2010, Mediafax reports. By such operations, BNR offers cash to commercial banks, in exchange of state bonds at the annual key interest rate of 5.25 pc. This was the largest sum lent through a repo auction after February 1, 2010, when 16 banks borrowed RON 9.24 bln.
