The World Bank will grant consultancy to the Competition Council (CC), aimed at increasing the efficiency of the institution, under a contract worth RON 19.84 M (some EUR 4.44 M), 85 pc financed with European non-reimbursable funds. The contract was concluded by CC, jointly with the General Secretariat of the Government and the World Bank, which will provide consultancy in the operational analysis specific to competition, as part of a project called ‘Increasing the efficiency of the activity of enforcing competition policies in correlation with sectoral policies,’ reads a press release issued by the competition authority.“By this project, we want to consolidate the Competition Council as a key institution of central administration, and to improve our actions in view of achieving the mission to contribute to the efficient operation of the sectors of the Romanian economy, to the benefit of consumers,” said Bogdan Chiritoiu, president of CC. The grant, which accounts for 85 pc of the cost of the project, will be provided by the European Social Fund, with the remainder being secured by Romanian authorities. The project will spread on 24 months and is meant to increase the Council’s role in defining economic policies in line with the principles of competition, and to consolidate the administrative capacity of the competition authority.
