Cretu, elected as vice-president of the Socialist Group in the EP

PSD MEP Corina Cretu was elected vice-president of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament, in charge with social policies and gender equality.”The confidence of my colleagues honours and obliges me, especially as we are in a difficult economic period, when European citizens acutely feel the effects of economic crisis. Job loss, salary discrimination on gender criteria, and the painful impact of recession upon family life are just few of the tough realities of the poverty caused by the austerity measures imposed by the right-wing governments of the European Union,” Corina Cretu said, quoted by Mediafax. The PSD MEP explained that the priorities of her mandate will be promoting the measures aimed at economic recovery and job creation, and defending the equality of chances between men and women. “We need measures to save the European social model, so the EU once again becomes a vector of the observance of civil rights,” Cretu emphasised. The new vice-president of the Socialist Group said that she will grant a particular attention to the problems of migrant workers and the negative consequences for their families, from the many cases of suicide to the alienation of families. Corina Cretu also considers that tougher measures are required in order to fight the trafficking of women inside the EU and the sex slavery networks.
