Prince Charles arrived Thursday to Saschiz, Mures County, where he visited a processing facility for vegetables and fruits, sources with the local authorities told Mediafax. According to the sources, Prince Charles was also expected in Apold and Daia, the same county. In Daia, the heir to the British throne was due to visit a flower plantation operated by a foundation specialising in biodiversity. As he is on a private visit and wants to avoid any speculation related to the local elections campaign, Prince Charles will not meet any representative of the local authorities in the three towns he will visit. After Mures, the British heir was expected to go to Brasov. Prince Charles, who is paying a private visit to Transylvania, landed Wednesday on the Transylvania Airport of Targu Mures, where he came by charter plane. Wednesday evening he went to Miclosoara, Covasna County, where he was the host of the family of Count Kalnoky. Prince Charles has two properties in the Valea Zalanului village, Covasna County, one of them being a century-old house that was completely refurbished. He actually owns several properties in Romania, including a house at Viscri. The visit paid by Prince Charles is an occasion for ethnic speculations made by some representatives of the Hungarian minority. The mayor of Sfantu Gheorghe, Antal Arpad on Thursday voiced his hope that Prince Charles, “the ambassador of Szeklerland,” will become, before long, an ambassador “of the interests of the Szekler community” and will understand that this region deserves to receive the status of autonomy.
