More than 8,300 drivers have been fined for driving over the speed limit and for alcohol consumption, among whom 440 had their driver’s license lifted.Traffic police on Saturday checked, 20,615 motor vehicles, of which 1,189 with foreign registration plates, Mediafax reported, quoting a Romanian Police media release. The driving offences led to 8,363 fines being issued, of which 420 to drivers of motor vehicles with foreign license plates. Of all the sanctions, 4,681 were handed down for speeding and 118 for alcohol consumption. Police lifted 440 driver’s licenses towards suspension, of which 132 for driving over the legal speed limit of 50 km/hour, 136 in traffic, with a blood alcohol concentration of over 0,8 g/l and 172 for other reasons. Police also uncovered 144 offences, of which 117 instances of non-compliance with the road traffic regime, and 27 of a different nature.The checks began on Friday, concluded yesterday and were held with help from law enforcement police. On Day 1 of the action, police issued 7,548 fines, of which 3,250 for speeding and 116 for alcohol consumption. Police withheld 375 driver’s licenses towards suspension, of which 80 for speeding and 120 for drinking and driving.
