After Romania’s Simona Gherman won the gold medal by defeating fellow national Anca Manoiu in the women’s epee final, Romania won two more silver medals on Sunday evening, in the men’s and women’s team events at the European Fencing Championships in Legnano, Agerpres informs.In the women’s final, Russia defeated Romania, score 42-4, and Estonia won the bronze medal after defeating Ukraine, score 34-32. The team coached by Dan Podeanu, Cornel Milan and George Epurescu had qualified in the final after defeating Estonia in the semifinals, score 45-37. The men’s sabre team lost the final to Russia, score 42-45. Germany won the bronze medal after defeating Italy, score 45-43. In 2011 Romania won a gold medal in the women’s epee event and a bronze medal in the individual event (Ana Maria Branza) at the European Championships in Sheffield (England). In 2009 Romania won gold in the women’s epee team event in Plovdiv. Romania is also world title holder in the women’s sabre team event. The Romanian men’s sabre team was European runner-up in 2009 and winner of the bronze medal at the World Championships in 2010, where Cosmin Hancianu won the bronze medal in the individual event.
