Purcarete’s ‘Off the Carnival,’ big winner of the Romanian Comedy Gala

The theatrical comedy ‘Off the Carnival,’ by I.L. Caragiale, directed by Silviu Purcarete emerged as grand winner of the night at the Romanian Comedy Gala festCo 2012, held Sunday at the Beligan Hall of the Bucharest Comedy Theatre, as it won four awards for the Best Show, Best Director, Best Scenography and Best Supporting Actor.The Best Leading Actor award of festCO 2012 went to Marcel Iures for his role Catavencu in ‘A Lost Letter’, directed by Alexandru Dabija, at the Comedy Theatre, and for his one-man show ‘Absolute!’ – an adaptation of ‘Ivan Turbinca’ by Ion Creanga, directed by Alexandru Dabija, at the Act Theatre. The jury nominated Cerasela Iosifescu as the winner of the Best Actress in a Leading Role for Veta, in ‘A Stormy Night’ by I.L. Caragiale, directed by Mircea Cornisteanu, at the ‘Marin Sorescu’ National Theatre of Craiova. The Best Supporting Actress award went to Dorina Chiriac, for her ‘Drunk Citizen’ role of ‘A Lost Letter’ by I.L. Caragiale, directed by Alexandru Dabija at the Comedy Theatre.The Best Show of an Independent Company award was granted to the Act Theatre for ‘Absolute!’ after ‘Ivan Turbinca’ by Ion Creanga, directed by Alexandru Dabija. Actor Marin Moraru received the Excellence Award.
